Kitchen Supervisor (Full-Time)
Location: Whistle Buoy Brewing – Victoria, BC
Schedule: Tuesday–Sunday, 9:00am–5:00pm (40 hours/week)
Compensation: $21.50/hour + BOH tip pool (high season tips typically $10–$20+/hr)
Benefits: Extended health benefits after 3 months (full-time)
Reports to: General Manager
We’re growing — and so is our vision.
Our kitchen is the newest branch of Whistle Buoy Brewing, rooted in the same values that guide everything we do: connection, quality, and pride in our craft. Though compact in size, our kitchen delivers elevated yet approachable food that highlights fresh, local ingredients and celebrates the community we’re part of.
We’re looking for an experienced operator and natural leader to take ownership of our back-of-house operations. This is more than a line cook role — it’s an opportunity to lead, build systems, and shape a kitchen culture from the ground up.
With limited equipment and space, we lean on creativity, collaboration, and intention to do more with less — without ever compromising on quality. You’ll be responsible for ensuring consistency, managing food cost and inventory, and creating an organized, efficient kitchen that runs with pride and precision.
You’ll often work independently or with a small team, while being fully supported by a larger crew that values teamwork, communication, and shared success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and own all back-of-house operations and daily execution
- Oversee food preparation, quality control, and consistency
- Manage ordering, inventory, food cost, and waste control
- Build and maintain prep systems that support efficient service
- Create and manage BOH scheduling aligned with business needs
- Maintain a clean, organized, food-safe kitchen environment
- Ensure full compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
- Collaborate with leadership on service flow and product alignment
- Contribute to menu development and operational efficiencies
- Train, coach, and support kitchen staff while setting clear expectations and standards
This role requires someone who can balance creativity with operational discipline.
We’re Looking For
- 2+ years experience in a kitchen leadership or senior line role with operational responsibility
- Strong understanding of food cost control, prep systems, and inventory management
- A calm, adaptable presence, especially in tight spaces and busy service
- A hands-on leader who leads by example
- Organized, proactive, and solution-oriented
- Clear, confident communicator
- High standards for cleanliness, consistency, and execution
- Someone excited to build and grow something meaningful
We want someone who takes pride in their work, cares deeply about quality, and brings positive energy to their team.
Compensation & Perks
- $21.50/hour base wage
- Participation in a separate Back-of-House (BOH) tip pool, calculated from food sales only
- BOH tips are split exclusively among kitchen staff and are not combined with Front-of-House tips
- In high season, BOH tip earnings typically range from $10–$20+/hour, depending on sales and staffing levels
- Extended health benefits after 3 months (full-time)
- After-work beer + staff discounts on beer and merch
- Opportunity to shape and grow a new branch of the business
- A supportive, high-energy team that values creativity and initiative
At Whistle Buoy, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive working environment where all employees feel respected and supported in fulfilling their potential. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, including Indigenous, Black, and other racialized peoples, women, persons with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. We believe that a diverse workforce brings unique perspectives and ideas, which helps us innovate and grow.
If you’re all about good food, strong leadership, and bringing care to the details, we’d love to meet you.
